Soy Wool = yummy

August 30, 2006

I should be in bed so I can get up early for school. I still have the anxiety that I will sabotage myself and sleep through the class. I only have 3 alarms set, is that enough or should I get another one? I think Tony’s cellphone has an alarm I can set. On Sunday night I slept with my cellphone in my hand, it has an alarm and vibrates (yeah, don’t go there…you bad people.)

Look, here is Patons SWS (Soy Wool Stripes.) It is 70% wool and 30% soy and it is very soft. The colors stripe and sort of remind me of Noro.

This would kill some people (Deneen) ;) to know I casted on another project, oh when I have a million and one things I am still working on. The colors aren’t exact because of lighting issues. Did I mention how soft this is?

I am going to present this at my job interview as a possible project to teach.

edited to add:  I know I said I wasn’t going to start any new projects…however, it isn’t September yet.  hee hee…

Lied

August 29, 2006

Rarely it happens, but I lied. I didn’t go to bed like most sane people would do (ps..I never said I was sane, remember I was the “crazycrafter.”) Instead, I got some type of second wind and in the midst of a bad toothache I did the dishes and finished the Jaywalker socks I have been working on.

Thanks again Sara for sending me this gorgeous yarn that you dyed. I absolutely loved knitting these and the colors never bored me, not once. Sometimes I thought the colors reminded me of a Mary Engelbreit Garden. Sometimes it was pure Christmas spirit.

Here is an inprogress picture of a scarf I am test knitting. This is where I was on Sunday. I am a bit further now. School might slow me up a bit, but I should have it finished by this weekend.

Do you ever wish that people would call you and start hounding you to finish your WIP’s? Okay, maybe that is pretty extreme…I guess I am feeling like I need to be accountable in finishing all that I have started.

Tired

August 29, 2006

School was good. I liked the teacher. She is easy to understand, interactive, and has a sense of humor. I think the semester will be hard, but fun.

I am super tired. I am not use to waking up at 6am. I have been spoiled about being able to stay up and wake up later. It is 8:30 and I am needing to sleep. Dishes are piling up in the sink….blah…

Oh, and I have a toothache. I have been putting the dentist off since I had to go 3 years ago and had a root canal…the time before, a root canal..and well I have a feeling it is time for my every three year root canal…I guess I will call the dentist in the morning.  The sad thing about this is I am an avid brusher and a compulsive flosser.  I have floss in my vehicle, by my computer, on my night stand, and in both bahtrooms.

I did get some knitting done on my sock and I am about 20 minutes away from finishing…sadly all I want to do is go hide in my bed. I will finish it tomorrow. Your sad, huh? Me too…

Going to school

August 28, 2006

I am going to school tomorrow.  It is going to be a long morning for me.  My class starts at 7:40am.  Wish me luck!

I didn’t get very much completed this weekend.  I am almost done with a sock and I am going to bring it to school with me.  You never know when I might find some knitting time to myself.

Tony and I still working on some things.  I am beginning to wonder if things are “cyclic” as they always show up the day before a test or first day of school or something that is important to me.  Sometimes I feel like I am being sabotaged.

Wish I had something creative and artsy to show you.  Sierra is going good at school. I am not seeing things eye to eye with Sierra’s teacher.  Tony has a vacation in a few weeks and I am going to volunteer in class and observe.  Until then, I will keep my thoughts to myself.

Wish I had something finished to show you.  I am testing a scarf and am to the last section of it.  The pattern part of it goes slower for me then the ribbing.  I think it is an excellent pattern.  I showed it to my mom and she thinks my dad will really like it.  Oh, and she thinks it is “blue” also.

I have decided that since I am going to school again and will be busy with that and my mother’s club that I better not start any new projects any time soon.  So for the month of September I am going to finish all WIP’s.  That is my goal.  Anyone up for a challenge?

Mary Janes with hats

August 27, 2006

Tony’s woodworking project is a “box.” It is a box that a piece of equipment at his work will sit on and it is going to have a drawer to keep small tools in. All of those torture-like things are clamps that are holding the pieces together while he is glueing.

I might drop my Anatomy class this weekend. Class starts on Monday and I can’t afford the book or the parking pass. I might just have to take this semester off and go next spring. I was hoping that we would be able to scrape some money up, but now we have to fix the brakes in the truck. I am kind of mad about that because about 6 months ago I mentioned to Tony the brakes felt funny. I swore to him they were going out. He drove my truck and said they were fine. He then took it to the next step and ridiculed me and made me feel like I was being paranoid.

Well, now they don’t just need new pads, but they need the roters turned, also. This needs to be done now. He has done absolutely nothing today to get the parts we need or to set up time and a place to do this. My patience is growing thin on some stuff.

I finished some hats to go with the mary jane booties. The pinks match perfect, but the purples don’t match that much. I was too tired last night to realize there was that much of a difference. They are still cute though.

Mary Janes

August 25, 2006

This is my husband’s new hobby. And you thought dpn’s were scary….He is still learning, so please don’t critique his method. For some reason I had to laugh at what he was doing and figured it would make for interesting blog content.

I finished some Mary Jane booties.

Pattern: is by Jessica at http://www.jcrochet.com/
Hook: Size B

Yarn: Size 3 Crochet Thread (can’t remember name/brand)

I decided on doing the picot trim. I don’t think I will put flowers on them, just leave them simple. I might make some matching hats. This pattern is super easy and works up really fast!

Pardon me…

August 23, 2006

I just wanted to apologize for having my blog reload in bloglines a million times. I am currently editing a lot of my posts. I have about over a year and a half of posts to edit. I may not get to them all in one day either.

What happened was when I moved my blog, I lost my pictures since most of them were uploaded right into blogger. Well, I found out, by accident that when I edited my wordpress posts that had the pictures in there, the picture would show up. So I am moving the pictures into photobucket and then resaving the post with the new photo link. It is tedious, but not as bad as what I originally thought I had to do. I don’t have to cry over margaritas anymore (not that I really was…but I was a bit depressed that most of my pics were missing…)

Thank you for your patience during my editing. :)

ps…I have a finished project I need to share…maybe tonight or tomorrow morning. :)

Tricksy yarn, progress, and a frog

August 20, 2006

First, I offered to test a scarf pattern for Ev. Hopefully she is okay with me showing pics of my progress. She is using dk cashmere (yum.) I am using Cascade Quatro, which is a WW 100% wool on size 6 needles. I like how it is turning out.

The color tricks you. For the last 6 months, I have thought this was blue, with some green. I asked Tony what color the yarn was and he glanced over at it and said blue. Guess what. It is not blue. Then as I was knitting away, it hit me that it was purple and green. The purple goes from dark to light, as does the green. The green does have a bluish tone to is, but it is not blue. The yarn is purple and green, not blue…man, that is weird. Look at it, what do you think? Fools the eye, huh?

I was going to make this scarf for my dad, but now am wondering what he will think of purple and green…or maybe he will always think it is blue?

I am making progress on the sock. I am almost ready to do the heel, less than 2 inches to go. Not that I am constantly measuring ;)

I wanted to be able to show you progress on Anouk or even finish it, but I have to be honest. I tried a provisional cast on and started to work on the pocket in intarsia and had to frog it all. Let’s just say it was a sick mess. It won’t defeat me though. I decided I will try again tonight. I need to finish something.

Maybe I will pick up the sleeve of the Angelica Tunic and start knitting on that? My goal this weekend is to be able to post some finished projects. I only have a short time before I start school back up and then it is study all the time. Sad but true. In fact, if I was a good student I would start memorizing bones and muscles right now and get a head start, but then that is just silly…

Finished Hat and Sock Progress

August 18, 2006

I finished another hat. This one turned out wonderful. I am going to mail this to Cordelia. Maybe she won’t read this? I actually did this a week ago or maybe more and hesitated if I should post it on my blog. I have been very lazy with my mailings. Send positive thoughts her way today. :)

The hat is crocheted from a pattern about 10 posts before this one, too tired to look right now.  It is in Plymouth Wildflower DK yarn, color green (or whatever fancy name they have for green.)

With the hat is the “dreaded” second sock. It is a jaywalker sock. I am working on this at a snail’s pace.

What have I been doing? Well, since you asked (okay, you really didn’t but humor me…) I have been setting up the new bulletin board Fiber Freaks. I have told you about it, right? It is an online community where knitters AND crocheters can talk about both with each other. We are breaking down the walls here. Knitters and crocheters can socialize. Good stuff!

Actually, it was my discovery at a crochet only board that there were “closet knitters.” They showed there crochet on the bulletin board and their knitting on their blogs. We all know that knitting and crochet have their place and there is a lot of grey (as well as a multitude of other colors) that overlap so it just isn’t all black and white. Okay, you get the point and I am tired and my eyes are blurring…

Tomorrow I am going to go to my yarn activity group with a local club so I should have some progress to show you tomorrow on something! (promise…yeah, yeah…you have heard that before…)

Anouk – In Progress

August 16, 2006

I haven’t been posting many in progress posts/pics, lately and really just need to be more in the habit of doing that.

Here is my Anouk in Progress. I am using cotton-ease and yes, it is kind of hunter orangish, but I think when I get the pockets with the other colors on it will tone it down a bit. Anyways, Halloween is right around the corner and this is a little pumpkinish.
