Dumb in the Darkroom

January 31, 2005

That is how I felt tonight in my photography class. I made 2 contact sheets and about 5 different versions of each. I enlarged 1 print and am not happy with the final print of it, so will either go back and try again or move on, haven’t decided. I shouldn’t feel too bad though, as it was the first time in the darkroom in months. I really could have spent 8 hours in there, if I didn’t have kids and a bad back.

Diaper Cake

January 28, 2005

Below is the diaper cake I made for a friend’s babyshower that is tomorrow. I need a topper for the cake, probably a cute pink stuffed animal (small) or rattle. I want something simple. I think the cake turned out pretty good. This was my first time attempting a diaper cake.

Symphony

January 26, 2005

I am having a love/hate relationship with this yarn. I love, love, love the color which is persimmon. Although, to me it looks like a rust color. I love the texture and how soft it is. This yarn is just gorgeous. However, I hate that you can’t pull a stitch out if you mess up. It appears that as you are crocheting with this yarn the fibers bind to each other like a velcro. If you try to pull the stitch out it knots and then breaks. I have been trying to make a shawl out of this yarn and after 4 attempts have had to start over. I probably could do it if I wasn’t distracted by my husband and kids every 2 seconds. If you see this yarn in the store I guarantee you will fall in love with it like I did.

Photo Sharing Link

January 25, 2005

I upload most of my photos to my Yahoo album located here

feel free to browse through the photos. I have some pictures of my quilts on here and I have a few albums of black and white pictures that I took with my 35 mm SLR. Please note that the black and white pictures are scanned from the negatives and I really did not adjust for value or contrast. I just scanned them and cropped them. I then take the negatives and make contact sheets out of them and end up enlarging only a few from each contact sheet. Scanning the negative is pretty interesting as you can see more detailed things that a contact sheet won’t show. All in all, I just scan them because I can and enjoy seeing the pics on my computer as some of these pictures will never be enlarged.

The photos that I uploaded to the blog are also scanned from negatives and I did no photo finishing to them. They are pretty raw. I will probably enlarge the “Twins” photo and my self portrait. I will try to scan the finished picture in a few months.
